A hustling and bustling brasserie where you are elbow-to-elbow with your neighbour - but it's just the place for when it's cold and rainy outside. It's very conveniently situated just on the north side of the Montmartre hill, half the way down, and easily within stumbling distance of the Sacré-Coeur.
It calls itself a "bistro a vins" but personally, to me it felt more like a brasserie. (For an explanation of the differences, click here.) The décor was old fashioned - very turn of the 1900s - which, as you can see from the photos, gave the place a very cosy feel.
It's not fabulous-fabulous but it's not half bad either. It's always full of people - either sitting inside in the long L-shaped salle or spilling out onto the pavement outside underneath the heaters. Overhearing our conversation in English, the waitress - one of the most friendly, accomodating waitresses that I've come across recently - kindly offered us an English menu, which we turned down, but the thought was there.
I thorougly enjoyed the experience of eating there and I'll definitely be back. In the meantime, I'll strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere "French" in the area.
